India is known as a country with plenty of delicious dishes to tempt you. Rajma is noted as tasty and easy recipe that is nice to serve with rice, naan or capathi. Rajma itself is red kidney bean which is popular to make rajma masala in India. This dish is also known as healthy food since it contains high fiber, folate as well as magnesium. Without further ado, here is step by step instruction to cook rajma recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ¾ cup chopped tomato
  • ¾ cup chopped onion
  • ½ cup rajma, soaked
  • ½ tsp chili powder, red chili is preferred
  • 2 cups water
  • Turmeric
  • 1 tsp coriander (powder)
  • ½ garam masala
  • Ginger
  • Salt
  • Coriander leave

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Soak rajma for 10 hours. If you want a quicker cooking, pressure cook the rajma for 4 whistles.
  2. Heat pan, add oil and sauté the cumin.
  3. Saute garlic paste until it smells good.
  4. Add chopped onion and tomatoes.
  5. Add salt and all spice powders.
  6. Add rajma and water. On medium flame, pressure cook for 2 whistles. When the pressure settles, open the cooker lid and stir. If you pressure cook since the first step, simmer the cooker for about 10 minutes.
  7. Taste if the rajma is well cooked.
  8. Sprinkle coriander and rajma is ready to serve. 

Note:

If the rajma are not soft, add more water and prolong the pressure cooking for 2 whistles. This may occur if you are using frozen beans or they are not well-soaked. This rajma recipe contains 124 calories with 5 grams fat and 15 grams carbohydrates. It also contains 4 grams protein. This is surely a sufficient morning menu for your breakfast.
